Capernaum Ministries January 2014

Capernaum Ministries is located in Lake Wales, FL on beautiful Pierce Lake.  We left MN on December 28th.  We listen to the weather forecast on Christmas day and heard that by Dec 29th the temp was going to be really dropping.  We packed very quickly--not to organized.  The morning we left Willmar the temp was 30 degrees. The next morning-500 miles south-the temperature was 30 degrees. The third morning-another 450 miles south-the temperature was 30 degrees.  When we got to Florida, another 400 miles, the temp was 30 degrees.  We thought we were stuck in MN and only dreaming that we were on the road, but then heard that MN was in a "deep freeze".  This has been a good year to be in Florida instead of Minnesota.

We were able to stop along the way to visit friends in AL, Beth's parents in Jacksonville, FL and friends in Lady Lakes, FL.  Very enjoyable trip and the motor home preformed perfectly-just drank lots of fuel.  We stayed in several Wal-Mart parking lots--sure is convenient to pull into the parking lot and push a button to level the rig.

Here some pictures of the Capernaum Ministries project.

John disconnecting demand water heater so it can be moved to the other side of the building.

Frank power washing a donated RV-- we repaired the roof and fixed under-cabinet light.

Group Leader Bob riding around in the golf cart--he kept us busy with several small projects.

John and I removing a limb over a camper--had to take it down in small pieces.  Needed two ropes-one to support the piece and the other to swing the piece out from above the camper.  Frank came to help with one of the ropes.

Jonalyn tiding up lake side.

Doris weeding

Carole adding lining to a curtain.  She and Doris went shopping for the material.
Some of the Cabins--Ladies cleaned inside and men touched up paint on the outside.

Martha-the ladies cleaned lots of cupboards in this kitchen and in several cabins.  Also cleaned windows etc.

Bob and Frank spreading mulch

We spread about 20 cubic yards of mulch on the prayer trail.  We used two wheel barrows and a golf cart to haul the mulch down the path.  The path winds through the "swamp" for about 150 yds--lots of walking.

Bob and Frank working on the interior of another donated camper.

We did some sightseeing.  It really does feel like you are rolling up hill.

Visited a local museum at the old train depot.  It had a doll house collection plus some local history items.  Also had a large model train layout--N scale.  We also visited the Florida Natural Orange Juice visitor center--very informational.

One evening a couple presented a musical concert.

Each Sunday night we had a pot luck and worship time in the dining area.

Each Sunday several of us attended this church's Sunday School and Worship.  I think it seats about 75.  Very friendly and "old" worship songs.
Sandhill crane--a common sight

Snow bird's RVs on the pond--there were about 10 "Snow bird" RVers.

Our spot under the tree--nice shade but not so good TV reception.

Office and dining area

No project would be complete without a SOWER pot luck.  Several SOWERs came from surrounding projects--good fellowship and time to renew friendships.

Trinity Pines April 2013

Sorry about being so far behind on getting this project info posted.
Just got way behind last spring.  I was group leader so didn't have any time during the project.  When we got home we decided to change to a motor home instead of the fifth-wheel.  That meant selling the fifth-wheel, the one-ton truck, selling a utility trailer, buying the MH and buying an enclosed trailer.  Plus doing house projects so we can put our house on the market in the summer of 2014.  We also made a trip out East for our 50th anniversary--about 5 weeks.  Got a little extended when the alternator on the MH quit in Nashville.  We still have some house projects to do before putting the house on the market--hope I can recruit some help.

Here are some pictures from our April 2013 SOWER project at Trinity Pines Camp and Conference Center in Trinity TX.
