Hi, we are at our February project. It is at the YWAM training center in Garden Valley TX which is only 7 miles west of Lindale TX. Our January project was about 10 miles east of Lindale.
On our week off between projects we went to The Valley to get some warm weather but it was also cool there. It is about 550 miles south to McAllen. We didn't take our campers--just one truck--gas mileage changes from 11 mpg to 21 mpg--saved enough to stay in motels and eat out. We saw cane and cabbage harvesting. Also went to South Padre Island and stopped at the Alamo in San Antonio. Rained all day on our last day from San Antonio to Lindale and the next day also when we moved from Rockin' C Ranch to the SOWER office--we have to leave our old project on Thursday and can not arrive on the new project until Friday (SOWER Rules).
We got set up at YWAM before lunch so had lunch in the dining hall--corn dogs and spicy fries--I did survive since they also have fruit and lot of bland food on the salad bar.
This project has several lakes (ponds) and is about 400 acres. It was originally a cat fish farm. The ladies will be working in the kitchen--they serve about 300 per meal. The men will be remodelling in a snack kitchen--sounds like it is at the sheetrock stage--haven't seen to building yet. Our group leaders are from a small town in New York. We are just three couples at this project and B & L can only work the first two weeks--need to get home for her dad's b'day.
We must get hair cuts and wash clothes today--try to wash truck also. Bye nlsower
