Completed our Jan Project

Hi--it is cold and rainy today. I have been trying to organize my tools and stuff today. When the sun shines again I will pack the truck and camper. We are planning a few days of rest. We will leave this project next Wed morning. We need to be to the next project on Friday. It is north of Houston.

The pictures are of one of the entries and one of the rooms that was painted.

This project has been fun--plus great fellowship with fellow believers. It is heart warming to know God is working here--1600 miles from New London. That is Pastor Willie behind his desk.

Two weeks down and one to go.

Hi everyone. This week has been rather rainy and cold. We had to work around the showers, so didn't get the metal on the roof of each entry. Got the starter sheets on the west entry. Also the framing of the east entry is ready for metal.Hidalgo is well kept. Neat lawns around schools and public buildings.

Hidalgo is known as the location where the killer bees entered the US in 1990. I don't think they were this large.

Hidalgo is known for their Christmas lights--this year they added about 30,000 new lights. The picture below is one of the displays by the city hall. All of the parks and many other locations have light displays. We found out about the display late New Years Eve but the displays are lighted through Dec 31st and we were several miles away. From what I have seen, it would be worth a trip Hidalgo in Dec just to see the lights.

Hidalgo's pump house was the source of water for irrigation for the valley until 1983. I think that is the right year.
Of course SOWERs never miss an opportunity to have fellowship. Sowers from Pharr project, Harligen project and Hidalgo project out to eat. A few RVIGs joined us.


Next week's forcast is for warmer weather in 70's but several shower. Hope we can finish the metal roofs and some siding. The offices are getting painted too.

One week down two to go!

This is the praise team on Sunday morning at the project's church--practicing before the service. They sang in both English and Spanish. About 150 attended the service.

Everything went well the first week. Weather was good too.

We hope to get the roof on both entries next week. Forecast is for some rain late Monday and early Tuesday--sounds like it will be light.

Ladies will continue to paint.

Today, Saturday, we went to a flea market--the kind I like--lots of junk. Didn't see anything that I didn't already have--junk that is.

The men's project will be adding two entries to the sanctuary building. It is a medal building so should be interesting on how to tie it into the existing building. Women are to do some office work or paint or sort clothes for the orphanage.

Side note: I sold by old dump truck today--Bob did the transaction.

The weather is great-in the 70's today plus a nice breeze.

We are in the Rio Grande Valley

Hi. Yes we had a couple of inches of snow in Nebraska--had to clean off the slides and wait until 11 am before we could hit the road. The roads were wet but not slippery. The camper and truck sure were a mess when we got out of the slush. Got to Guthrie OK by night. It was still below freezing so no water on-board--we decided to stay in a motel for some hot water. We also plugged in the camper at another motel's camping spots. Started to warm up when we got to TX so we stayed just north of San Antonio Saturday night. We got to the Valley on Sunday afternoon--looked over our first project but can't stay there until Friday. The project should be interesting--the church looks like an old spanish mission with a metal building in the back yard. The camping facilities are in the same back yard--it will be interesting to get our camper through the gate and turned around. Today we got some of the road dirt washed off the truck and camper. Had a New Year party at the camp ground tonight--everyone went home by 9:30--that's old people for you. Beautiful today in the 70's--will be "cold" the next couple of days--only in the 60's. We are back on the road

Hi everyone. B and C are back on the road--heading for Hidalgo, Texas. R and V are not going to any project this winter--I'll let them know when there are messages for them if they don't see the post.

We left on Dec 26, but only made it 30 miles to Raymond, MN--U-joint on the truck went bad. We made it back to New London so Steve, Kevin and Bob could replace the U-joint. Got going again on the 27th--made 400 miles to Nebraska City, Nebraska. Roads were dry all the way. Rather foggy so the trees were beautiful.

Sounds like there may be some snow to the south tomorrow morning clearing in the afternoon. It may be slow going.

This campground is covered with ice--sure is good to have 4-wheel drive or I may not get out of here. Bye nlsower (B and C)

We are back home!

Hi. I'm trying to find some pictures to put on the blog. Thanks for following us on our tour for the last 6 months. I will get some of our last photos organized and put them on the blog--hope to get that done in the next couple of weeks. Don't hold your breath--the job phone calls started even before I got home. I need the jobs so I'm not complaining--thank God for the work (money).

We (B and C) got home Friday at about 5 pm. It is sure different to move back into a house--lots more room than the camper. So I'm sitting in the camper doing my computer work--not because I can't stand to move into our house--it's because the cell phone reception is better on the hill instead of down in the valley. My cell phone is my Internet connection.

We had a great trip. Worked at five SOWER projects, each had its special ministry. Each project was unique with its special needs. Let me tell you God is at work across the continent--people are dedicated to telling the Good News. We are thankful that we could be a part of their ministry. Thank you for praying for us as we traveled.

We are planning to be home through December than we are thinking of working in TX for Jan, Feb and March 2008--don't know which projects will be available. If you would like to join SOWERS, let us know.
